The work of "Kid Cash"

Kid Cash

Name: Kid Cash/Klub7
Home Town & Country: Berlin, Germany
Age: 32

Occupation/Job title: Freelancer at KLUB7© GbR

What can you tell us about your design on the edding Art Series markers?
The design came about in collaboration with the whole of KLUB7. Very often, we paint as a team of six, letting a mixed style evolve - one that is KLUB7! In this case, OTTO BAUM and I did the inscription, LOWSKII did the fish and Daphne did the mussel in the background. I then combined the whole thing and added the colour.

Which (artists/designers/illustrators etc) have been (or are) your greatest influences (dead or alive)?
Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Werner Klemke, Barry McGee, BLU, JR, Mike Perry, ATAK, Stephen Powers, Brad Downey, John Downer, David Sandlin & 44Flavours.

Are you a member of any crews/collaborations/groups? Can you tell us about them?
I am one of six members of the KLUB7 group of artists. KLUB7 is a team of artists and designers. We consciously use both terms, as we have been working across both disciplines since 1998. Our work is diverse. Inspired by our medium - the city - we mix hand-made, hand-drawn, experimental typography, comic-like characters, structures and patterns and turn them into illustrations and graphics for books, album covers, t-shirts, corporate designs, art posters, screen prints and (above all) interior design.

Our customers include BMW, Google, New Yorker Europe, edding, Becks and the Centre for Contemporary Culture.

In 2006, we published a book on Street Art entitled "Street Art - the city as a playground?.

To date, KLUB7 has put on more than 30 exhibitions of its creative work in Germany, France, Norway, Holland and Switzerland.

What is your proudest/greatest achievement to date?
The three biggest successes that immediately spring to mind are:
* Two markers for edding!
* The book ?Street Art ? the city as a playground?
* The HOLZ51 exhibition in Berlin/Neurotitan 2010

Describe your trademark style/character? (or What are you most famous for?)
Within the KLUB7 group of artists I am often responsible for the composition and combination of the different styles. I love it!

I am also a typography fan, so I love letters, graffiti and illustrations. Photography is always something I enjoy - and is even a hobby of mine.

If you could collaborate with one artist/group who would that be and why?
BLU or MIKE PERRY. I can?t decide. BLU paints such great wall projects. His style really strikes a chord with me.

When it comes to illustration and typography, MIKE PERRY is my role model. Top aesthetics!

What?s your favourite colour?
I like all colours. It depends on the picture and the content. I like to work with a very reduced colour scale, such as light blue, medium blue, dark blue, black and white.

Where and when did you start?
I started with graffiti in 1993 in Halle/Saale in Germany. After the reunification of Germany, it was exactly the right thing for me. I have become a real fan - all I have done is paint, and I haven?t stopped since!

How did you come to get your name?
My name is a combination of the colloquial English words for ?child? and ?money?. ?Money rulez the world? - and when I paint, I often try to think like a child again.

Who are your usual artistic partners?
MIKE OKAY, OTTO BAUM, DISKO ROBOT, LOWSKII, DAPHNE & 44FLAVOURS

What other brands/companies have you worked for?
KLUB7 customers include BMW, Google, New Yorker, edding, Becks and the Centre for Contemporary Culture.

What can we expect to see from you in the future?
More stuff, fresher stuff, larger, better quality, worldwide!
